UNAM
UNAM is the acronym for Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. It’s the largest university in Mexico and Latin America, and is widely regarded as the leading public research university of the Spanish-speaking world. Its extensive Campus in Mexico City, known as Ciudad Universitaria, features many fine buildings designed by some of Mexico’s leading architects, some containing murals by Diego Rivera and David Siqueiros.

UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITES, MEXICO
A UNESCO World Heritage Site is a physical landmark which has been officially recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Heritage Sites are selected based on having significant cultural, historical, scientific, or humanistic value and, once ascribed, they become legally protected by international treaties. Mexico has more UNESCO ascribed sites than any other country in the Americas: 27 cultural sites, 6 natural sites, and 1 mixed site are ascribed; total of 34.

UXMAL
Uxmal (pronounced “oosh-MAHL”) is said to be among the most attractive of the Maya archaeological sites. Uxmal was an important city, probably built around 700 AD, although inhabitants are thought to have lived in the area as far back as 800 BC—nearly 1,000 years before the city was built. It is a mystery why a settlement was ever made here: there are no rivers or local sources of water, and no evidence that they once existed. One of the features of Uxmal are the Mayan chultunes (cisterns), which held water for the population to live from.
