Benito Juárez holiday weekend — In March, Mexico commemorates the birth of Benito Juárez—one of the country’s most revered former political leaders. The original March 21st holiday was moved to the third Monday in March and became one of the three annual long weekend holidays—which this year falls on March 16th.
Seasonal and (no) clock changes
Febrero loco y marzo otro poco is a pithy Mexican adage that accurately describes the erratic weather patterns that can be observed across the mainland during these months. March heralds the start of spring in Mexico, although occasional cold fronts can still pay short visits, and wind storms can arrive at any moment. Most of Mexico of won’t move its clocks this spring, but clock changes elsewhere may affect your routines or work schedule if they involve meetings with people abroad, or travel.

Spring months are the driest in Mexico

Mexican cellphones registration
On December 8, 2025, the Mexican government announced that new rules require every Mexican cellphone number (contract and pre-pay) to be associated with verified and registered user. This article shares details about the registration rules and process, and we are keeping it regularly updated as new information becomes available. The deadline date is June 30, 2026, and telephone companies will supposedly suspend all lines not registered on July 1.
Clock-change reminder
In 2022, most of Mexico abandoned the practice of moving its clocks. This year the spring clock change in the US/Canada happens on March 8. (Europe moves its clocks forward on March 29.) Mexico provides year-round long daylight hours and the quality of the light here is extraordinary. We’ll publish further details of 2026 clock changes in the March edition of our Mexico newsletter.
Mosquitoes return after the winter
The number of mosquitoes falls noticeably from late fall, and after a winter lull they typically begin to reappear during March—and are most prevalent in Mexico between April and November as their numbers swell during the rainy season, June to October.
