Flight Options to Reach Copper Canyon

Flight options to reach the west and east termini of Mexico's Copper Canyon train line

Early morning flight over central Mexico

Mexico’s Copper Canyon offers you one of the most breath-taking travel experiences in Mexico: a dramatic and outstanding train journey that traverses an area of immense natural beauty situated in north-western Mexico, coupled with an option to stop and explore inside the canyons.

The train line has two termini: on the west side at Los Mochis, on Mexico’s Pacific Coast; and on the east side at Chihuahua City.  While it’s possible to begin your journey in Chihuahua, we strongly recommend you begin in Los Mochis for reasons explained in our guide to Copper Canyon.

The overwhelming number of visitors to the Copper Canyon will fly to Los Mochis and to this end, there are a range of flight options to consider.  Several Mexican airlines serve the city of Los Mochis:

Aeromexico connects Los Mochis with Mexico City

Califia Airlines connects Los Mochis with Cabo San Lucas, La Paz, Loreto, Ciudad Constitución, and Chihuahua City.

TAR Airlines connects Los Mochis with Puerto Vallarta, Queretaro, Guadalajara, Durango, and Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo

Volaris offers direct flights to Los Mochis on Sundays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, through CBX (Cross Border Express Terminal), which is ideal if you are traveling via San Diego.

Chihuahua City is well-served by a range of airlines including Aeromexico, VivaAerobus, and TAR.  Flights to/from Dallas and Houston, Texas also connect with Chihuahua City.

If you have arranged an organized tour of the Copper Canyon, your tour operator will be at the airport to greet you and provide immediate transport to your local accommodations before your train journey begins.
