US Citizens Need Passport for Air Travel

As of January 23, 2007 all passengers — including US Citizens — traveling by airplane to the United States will need to carry a valid passport.
American Citizens who formerly used birth certificates and driver’s licenses for entry to the US may no longer use these forms of ID for travel into the US by air.
Permanent Residents of the US with a valid “green card” may continue to use this in lieu of a passport to gain re-entry to the United States.
If you are an American Citizen planning to visit Mexico using air travel and you do not have a US passport, you should apply for one at your earliest opportunity. Further details may be found here.
