Hotel Deals and Discounts

Hotel discounts are available all-year long somewhere in Mexico.

That’s because different regions in Mexico experience their “high” and “low” seasons at varying times of the year.  Some of this is, in part, due to the varying regional climates, but there are also other factors which affect demand for hotel rooms such as festivals and major events which can attract huge numbers of people at certain times of the year.

Most colonial cities in Mexico, and especially the more popular ones like Cuernavaca, Puebla, Taxco, Queretaro, San Miguel, Guanajuato and Oaxaca City, fill-up at weekends, as Mexicans and foreigners alike leave the capital or embark upon a two or three day break.  This influx of weekend travlers causes room prices to increase on Friday and Saturday nights in many of Mexico’s provincial towns and cities; so if you can stay between Sunday and Thursday, you may enjoy a discount at many provincial city hotels.

In Mexico City, the opposite is true: most of the better quality hotels cater for business travelers who disappear at the weekends, so weekday prices are higher and weekend deals abound.   If you’re visiting Mexico on a tour, and want to save money on your lodging, try to stay in the capital at the weekend and visit popular provincial destinations during the week.

Hoteliers in Mexico sometimes find they have been left with an excess number of vacant rooms over particular periods, and they may launch a promotion in an attempt to fill them.  Other times, a group of hotels at a specific location may co-operate to offer a discount on accommodation, in at attempt to attract visitors there.
